Friends 'Bring a Plate' Supper, 13th May 2009
Wednesday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for those who attended our Friends' Supper and Quiz that evening. Sometimes called 'an American Supper' guests were invited to bring a plate of their favourite food to put on a cold buffet table and share it with the other guests. The committee waited in some trepidation, wondering if there would be enough food. Would it be all savoury and no sweets? Would it be all sausages rolls? In the event the buffet table was groaning with food, encouraging people to have second and third helpings! There was a wonderful variety and we learnt that amongst our members are some really excellent cooks.
Their superb efforts created a real party atmosphere. We all had to 'earn' our supper by participating in a light-hearted quiz presided over by Dr. Laurence Maule from the Webb-Peploe practice. Full of quips and banter he made the evening go with a swing. We cannot thank him enough for the fun and amusement he brought to the evening.
The most successful table in the quiz was 'A rose amongst five thorns', the rose being Treasurer Roger Snell.
Our thanks to everyone who worked to make the evening so successful: on the quiz, the raffle, running the bar, organising the room and bringing the food. Above all to Marie Mudie who masterminded the event.
